Beginning your 3 days Mount Meru adventure, you’ll depart from Arusha or Moshi. You’ll travel toward the lush landscapes of Arusha National Park, feeling anticipation build as you reach the Momella Gate. From here, the trail winds through vibrant rainforest, where the calls of colobus monkeys echo. Occasional sightings of buffalo or giraffes add excitement. Gradually, the path becomes steeper, guiding you through layers of verdant forest until you finally arrive at Miriakamba Hut. This first evening, you’ll settle in, with the sounds of the forest all around and the mountain awaiting above.
The following morning, the trek continues upward. The landscape shifts noticeably as you climb, moving from dense jungle to open moorland. With each step, the view broadens, unveiling glimpses of the Meru crater below and even the distant peak of Kilimanjaro. Reaching Saddle Hut by midday, you’re at the perfect spot to pause. Catch your breath, and take in the awe-inspiring scenery. For those seeking a little more adventure, an acclimatization hike up Little Meru offers a chance to adjust to the altitude and witness even more spectacular vistas. With evening settling in, you’ll return to Saddle Hut, resting in preparation for the final ascent.
In the quiet of pre-dawn, headlamps lighting the trail, you begin the exhilarating summit push. Slowly but steadily you make your way toward the peak. Moving past Rhino Point and then on to Cobra Point, each section of the climb reveals new, rugged terrain. The horizon begins to glow with the first hints of sunrise. Finally, after hours of determined effort, you reach the summit just as the sun rises. There you’ll witness a breathtaking glow over Mount Kilimanjaro and the Tanzanian plains far below. The view is unlike any other, rewarding every step taken to get there.
As you descend, the sense of accomplishment stays with you, accompanied by the stunning sights from the journey back to Saddle Hut, where a brief rest is well-deserved. Continuing downward, you retrace the trail through moorland and forest until you return to the starting point at Momella Gate. With every step, you reflect on the unforgettable experiences from Mount Meru, feeling enriched and inspired by this truly unique climb.
