Beginning your 4 days Mount Meru adventure, you’ll depart from Arusha or Moshi. You’ll head toward the lush landscapes of Arusha National Park. Excitement builds as you approach the Momella Gate. Starting here, the trail winds through vibrant rainforest where the sounds of colobus monkeys echo around you. You may even spot buffalo or giraffes nearby. As the path gradually steepens, you ascend through layers of verdant forest. Each turn bringing you closer to the mountain’s heart. Finally, you’ll arrive at Miriakamba Hut for your first overnight. The lively forest surrounds you and the mountain awaits above.

Trek to Saddle Hut

The next day, you’ll set off once more, and soon, the jungle gives way to open moorland. This offers vast views of the Meru crater below and, occasionally, the distant peak of Kilimanjaro. The trail to Saddle Hut climbs steadily, each step revealing new scenery and unique vegetation. By midday, you reach Saddle Hut. After settling in, you may take on a short acclimatization hike up Little Meru. This is a fantastic vantage point for taking in sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes. As evening falls, you’ll return to Saddle Hut to rest, preparing for the summit attempt.

Reaching the summit

In the early pre-dawn hours, under a starlit sky, you begin the exhilarating summit push. Your headlamp is illuminating each careful step forward. With Rhino Point and Cobra Point marking your progress, you move steadily upward, traversing rugged terrain as the sky begins to lighten. Finally, after hours of determined effort, you arrive at the summit. Just in time to witness the sun rising over Kilimanjaro and the endless plains below! A truly breathtaking sight that rewards every step taken to reach this incredible height.

After taking in the unforgettable views, you’ll begin the descent back to Saddle Hut. Here you can rest briefly and savour the accomplishment of your climb. The following day, your final descent back to Momella Gate takes you once again through the stunning scenery and varied landscapes of the mountain, each step a reminder of the unique and inspiring experience these 4 days Mount Meru has offered.
